A few days ago I had a friend come to stay with me, we popped out so I could pick up a few things up i.e candles etc. while we were out we were peckish and decided to grab a light bite in a country pub.
Omg, this wasn’t as easy as it sounds!
There are a number of lovely country pubs in my vicinity so we ventured down to the The Fox, Its a lovely venue with good food. We ordered our drinks and picked up the menus. All that was on offer was “lite bites”. I’m sure you are all aware, these are just starters and normally deep fat fried in most offering.
We fancied a freshly made sandwich with granary bread presented with garnish maybe a few crisps on the side or a small bowl of chips to share. This wasn’t possible so we drank our drinks and left.
The Maybush was close by, we set off to see if we could get what we fancied there. It’s a great venue and very good food, but again, all that was on offer was the “lite bites”menu. Again these are predominantly deep fat fried and we didn’t want that so we left again.
I was scouring my brain cells trying to think of somewhere to eat which wasn’t a cafe to enjoy a glass of wine with our lunch, a nice setting but somewhere that might offer what we were looking for.
Eventually my brain went ping!, I recalled someone telling me about a place in Felixstowe down by the sea front which offered good food. By this time our tummies were rumbling and it was only 8 minutes down the road, we decided to go for it.
I hadn’t been there before and couldn’t exactly remember the name but I knew the location. It was very blustery and a very cold day to be down by the sea front but we knew what we wanted and our tummies were definitely in charge.
We were now on a mission lol.
The Fludyers is a vibrant pub, restaurant and hotel located in a beautiful restored Edwardian building on the Suffolk coastline, just yards from the beach.
We walked in, the bar was busy and a number of friendly staff visible, we noticed the chalkboard with an array of yummy bites and there. As clear as day, chalked up, the infamous “prawn sandwich with rosemary sauce“.
Immediately we ordered our drinks and both of us ordered the prawn sandwich in rosemary sauce and a bowl of home cut cooked chips to share. We were asked what bread we would prefer and both of us opted for granary and with tummies growing out-loud we picked our drinks up and grabbed a table with views of the sea.
Only five minutes had passed and our beautifully presented sandwiches arrived, fresh granary bread filled unsparingly with prawns, a lovely garnish along with our bowl of home cut cooked chips. I’m afraid to say we eat with our eyes and I can assure you, it tasted as good as it looked.
