May Bank Holiday
Friday 8th May 2020
Most diary, mine included will be printed with the May bank holiday as Monday 4th May 2020 and they will all be wrong this year.
Normally the early May bank holiday falls on the first Monday of May. But this year, 2020 it won’t be on May 4th, it will be on Friday 8th.
The day has only been moved once before, in 1995, to mark the 50th anniversary of VE Day.
The Government announced the change of date in June last year to mark the 75th anniversary of VE Day. When this was announced many people started to arrange street parties etc. in preparation to commemorate VE Day but, at that time Covid-19 didn’t exist. Obviously all the street parties and fair have been cancelled.
What we can all do and has been asked of us all, is to commemorate this day using bunting, too decorating our windows and or front gardens with bunting to show solidarity and respect for those who had fallen 75 years ago.
