Shrove Tuesday – Pancake Day
Shrove Tuesday – Pancake Day
Shrove Tuesday known as pancake day, we adopted eating pancakes back in the 16th century, it was a way of getting rid of and using up all the tempting foods i.e eggs, sugar and fat in ready for lent within the Christian faith.
Over the years it’s become more of a family fun occasion as opposed to a tradition of faith, but it also could become a couples saucy morning.
Children and Adults alike, we look forward to the day we can have pancakes either for breakfast dinner or tea and these days the variety of flavours is huge. Some include a selection of fruit or a choice of toppings such as maple syrup and across the pond they are eaten with their cooked breakfast and not just on pancake day.
If your tastebuds are more traditional, you will probably choose the Uk pancakes with a sprinkling of sugar and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
UK Pancakes are very different from our friends in the USA, ours are made with plain flour, thin and flipped in a frying pan. American pancakes (scotch pancakes or drop scones as they are called in the UK) are thick and squidgy and great for soaking up your maple syrup – yummy and thats if the maple syrup is only poured on the pancakes lol
