For a Friend – The Legendary, Luther Vandross

He would have been 70 this week!

Luthers early years would see him perform in many bands but became highly sort after for many famous artist as a backing singer on the R&B scene. Later, he became a lead singer of the group Change which released its gold-certified debut album, The Glow of Love
After Luther left the group 1n 1980, he was signed to Epic Records as a solo artist and released his debut solo album, Never Too Much, in 1981.
Struggling with his weight over many years would increased his health problems causing him to be diagnosed with diabetes and hypertension. His body eventually succumbed to a severe stroke on 16th April 2003, leaving him in a coma for almost 2 months. Luther’s ability to speak and sing was highly effected and left him wheelchair bound. Sadly he never fully recovered from the stroke.
At the young age of 54, Luther then suffered a heartache on 1st July 2005.
His legacy is his beautiful soulful velvet toned voice with his last hit “Dance with my Father”, based on his and his mothers memories . Release 2 years before his death, won him a grammy award for the best song of the year.
He will always be remembered and will live on through his music…
